It started with a memory.....

I have been sewing for a few years & have golfing friends that quilt so, as we make our way around the course each week, we chat about our projects.  I had mentioned to one gal who happens to have an embroidery machine that I had this "China Doll"  fabric left over from making things for LiLi & that I wanted to do something special with it.  She offered to do the embroidery for me & suggested I could incorporate into a quilted pillow.  She found this pattern for Sunbonnet Sue goes to China which was perfect!   Of course I hadn't ever done quilting but given my attitude "There's nothing you can't do unless you try!"  I starting reading up, watched videos, asked questions, bought quilting rulers etc & jumped in with both feet!

A monster was born!

I started out with the bags but I kept putting off the pillow because I didn't really know how to get started.  I asked a zillion more questions & got ideas & a week before christmas decided I was making a quilt instead of a pillow & that would be a special present for LiLi.  I just picked out some fabric that coordinated & kept adding rows & a quilt was born.
It was so much fun to do & she loved it!  Thank you Diane for inspiring me.
The quilt on the left was an accident.  When I started designing the bag made from that fabric I had the wrong size squares....they were already sewn together so I bought more fabric & designed a quilt!  The table topper on the right is also from Robert Kaufman Asian Traditions.  Again I had bought some charm squares & strips because I loved the fabric so it's another "one of a kind" !
This is what I made with all the leftover scraps.

I will admit I am truly addicted to quilting!  I want to buy every piece of fabric that inspires me & make every quilt I see...I already have quite a stash & more than several project line up to make!

I just need a few more hours in the day!

Designer "doggy uggs"

Poor Molly has been having a hard time already this winter with the snow. She has good size pads on her feet which are "webbed" like a lab's foot.  When she goes in the snow it builds up in between her pads & forms a hard piece of almost ice-like snow.  Then she holds her foot up for someone to pull it out.  I decided to make her her own boots. Jessica had spent the night here as we went to First night for new years....more on that later.....so we "googled" how to make dog boots & then modified it to work for Molly.  Keep in mind these were boots you could make in 10 minutes.  It took approx 10 mins to measure Molly's feet.  Two hours later here's the results I did decide to make her 2 for each foot figuring she would be like any typical kid & lose a couple here & there. We had to go to W*lmart in the middle of the project to get velcro to make the fasteners.  We then made her wear them around the house for a while ...

Sewing, weaving & emptying the waterbed

Monday morning began bright & early as we needed to finish emptying our bedroom.  Mark was dropping LiLi off before 8:00am as she does not have school this week.  We needed to drain the waterbed before we could take it apart.  As usual we were having no luck getting the water to siphon out & even resorted to having LiLi (all 35lbs of her) sitting on it with us!!  It probably took over an hour & who knows how many tries before it worked.  Got the mattress out & discovered the decking was falling apart.....good thing we decided to do this project,,,,I was able to find a local place so we can just replace it & to be safe I also got a new safety liner & heater.  I don't want to be doing this again for a while!  While Popster worked on replacing the baseboard & window trim in those two rooms LiLi & I started working on this doll kit she had gotten for her birthday.  All the pieces needed to be sewn togeth...

Happy "13th" Birthday Liza

Today is Liza's 13th birthday(that is 91 in people years). We are just amazed that she not only is still with us, after being told 18 months ago she wouldn't live 6 months but that weather permitting she still walks 2 miles every morning & another 2 in the afternoon! Check out the slide show.......her friend Lucy came over tonight & they each had a donut w/frosting & sprinkles along with ice cream. It was just too funny as neither one of them can see worth a damn but they knew they were getting something good! Lucy had hers gone in 2 bites but Liza went for the ice cream first & then took her time licking off the frosting!
