Earthquake, hurricane, tornado, tropical storms........

It has been quite crazy around the great northeast recently when it comes to weather.  Yes we did have a tornado touch down a few mile from here on Sunday.  Since then we have had nothing but clouds & rain, some of it torrential.  After heavy rain Weds, yesterday morning they had to evacuate all the areas that were hit hard last week because of potential flooding again.  I was at work as when the weather cleared in the morning we were super busy.

I work until 1:00 on Thurs & decided to go play a few holes with my buddy Dominic before I went home.  Around 2:30 I got a message from Popster telling me all the bridges across the river were closed again!  At that point I decided I'd better head home before rush hour as I needed to go quite a few miles out of my way to get home.

Bad choice!!!

Everyone had the same idea & I got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic all the way to the Northway.  That is always a heavily traveled road but yesterday it was a 6 lane parking lot.  After an hour I finally got on the northway but never got out of 1st gear until I crossed the river!  That's when I made another bad choice.  I got off the first exit after I crossed & headed home back towards the river figuring that if the Rexford bridge was closed there wouldn't be any traffic.

Wrong!!

They had opened it again so now I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic again.  It took me 45mins to go the last 5 miles!

I should have just stayed there, finished my round & I would have gotten home in 25 mins instead of 2 hours!!

Designer "doggy uggs"

Poor Molly has been having a hard time already this winter with the snow. She has good size pads on her feet which are "webbed" like a lab's foot.  When she goes in the snow it builds up in between her pads & forms a hard piece of almost ice-like snow.  Then she holds her foot up for someone to pull it out.  I decided to make her her own boots. Jessica had spent the night here as we went to First night for new years....more on that later.....so we "googled" how to make dog boots & then modified it to work for Molly.  Keep in mind these were boots you could make in 10 minutes.  It took approx 10 mins to measure Molly's feet.  Two hours later here's the results I did decide to make her 2 for each foot figuring she would be like any typical kid & lose a couple here & there. We had to go to W*lmart in the middle of the project to get velcro to make the fasteners.  We then made her wear them around the house for a while ...

Sewing, weaving & emptying the waterbed

Monday morning began bright & early as we needed to finish emptying our bedroom.  Mark was dropping LiLi off before 8:00am as she does not have school this week.  We needed to drain the waterbed before we could take it apart.  As usual we were having no luck getting the water to siphon out & even resorted to having LiLi (all 35lbs of her) sitting on it with us!!  It probably took over an hour & who knows how many tries before it worked.  Got the mattress out & discovered the decking was falling apart.....good thing we decided to do this project,,,,I was able to find a local place so we can just replace it & to be safe I also got a new safety liner & heater.  I don't want to be doing this again for a while!  While Popster worked on replacing the baseboard & window trim in those two rooms LiLi & I started working on this doll kit she had gotten for her birthday.  All the pieces needed to be sewn togeth...

Happy "13th" Birthday Liza

Today is Liza's 13th birthday(that is 91 in people years). We are just amazed that she not only is still with us, after being told 18 months ago she wouldn't live 6 months but that weather permitting she still walks 2 miles every morning & another 2 in the afternoon! Check out the slide show.......her friend Lucy came over tonight & they each had a donut w/frosting & sprinkles along with ice cream. It was just too funny as neither one of them can see worth a damn but they knew they were getting something good! Lucy had hers gone in 2 bites but Liza went for the ice cream first & then took her time licking off the frosting!
