Breakfast at the track

For two years now I have been wanting to go to the Saratoga Race Track for breakfast but never do it.  I realized yesterday that Monday was the last day of the racing season which meant we had to go Sunday.  Having been up at 3:00am two days in a row because I opened at work  I really didn't want to set my alarm on Sunday but did it anyway.
We arrived at the track by 7:00am along with a lot of other people!
They get there when the gates open so they can stake out their picnic table for the day even though the first race isn't until 1:00pm

You actually walk across the exercise track
This is the clubhouse end of the grandstand
We got seated right next to the track
It was a beautiful morning & so cool to be so close to the horses

This is the winner's circle & each statue is painted with the winner's colors

This is the trolley that was taking us on a tour of the back stretch
This is Buddy......he's one of the ponies that escort the thoroughbreds when they exercise or to take them to the starting gate
This is a young thoroughbred being taught how to race

These views are from the back stretch with  the grandstand on the other side of the track
There's that beautiful grey horse again
These are the stables & in front of them is the cooling down ring & place where they are bathed

The stating gate.........the horses have to go to "starting gate school" where they are taught how to go in & out of the starting gate.
This is for my both my brothers

It was a very informative tour & we were glad we finally made it there.

Designer "doggy uggs"

Poor Molly has been having a hard time already this winter with the snow. She has good size pads on her feet which are "webbed" like a lab's foot.  When she goes in the snow it builds up in between her pads & forms a hard piece of almost ice-like snow.  Then she holds her foot up for someone to pull it out.  I decided to make her her own boots. Jessica had spent the night here as we went to First night for new years....more on that later.....so we "googled" how to make dog boots & then modified it to work for Molly.  Keep in mind these were boots you could make in 10 minutes.  It took approx 10 mins to measure Molly's feet.  Two hours later here's the results I did decide to make her 2 for each foot figuring she would be like any typical kid & lose a couple here & there. We had to go to W*lmart in the middle of the project to get velcro to make the fasteners.  We then made her wear them around the house for a while ...

Sewing, weaving & emptying the waterbed

Monday morning began bright & early as we needed to finish emptying our bedroom.  Mark was dropping LiLi off before 8:00am as she does not have school this week.  We needed to drain the waterbed before we could take it apart.  As usual we were having no luck getting the water to siphon out & even resorted to having LiLi (all 35lbs of her) sitting on it with us!!  It probably took over an hour & who knows how many tries before it worked.  Got the mattress out & discovered the decking was falling apart.....good thing we decided to do this project,,,,I was able to find a local place so we can just replace it & to be safe I also got a new safety liner & heater.  I don't want to be doing this again for a while!  While Popster worked on replacing the baseboard & window trim in those two rooms LiLi & I started working on this doll kit she had gotten for her birthday.  All the pieces needed to be sewn togeth...

Happy "13th" Birthday Liza

Today is Liza's 13th birthday(that is 91 in people years). We are just amazed that she not only is still with us, after being told 18 months ago she wouldn't live 6 months but that weather permitting she still walks 2 miles every morning & another 2 in the afternoon! Check out the slide show.......her friend Lucy came over tonight & they each had a donut w/frosting & sprinkles along with ice cream. It was just too funny as neither one of them can see worth a damn but they knew they were getting something good! Lucy had hers gone in 2 bites but Liza went for the ice cream first & then took her time licking off the frosting!
