Visit to Sparrow Hall Farm

On Monday morning we got up early & took a walk around the Nature Trail & back through the village. Jenifer came to pick us up as we were going to spend the day at their house.

This is the top their road & if you look way off in the wild blue yonder to the left where the trees are you will be able to visualize how far off the beaten track they are!

After we had a cup of tea....coffee for me.....we headed out to the potato barn where Greg & Adam were getting some pallets of potatoes ready for some orders that were being picked up later that day.

This is the machine that sews the bags closed

I had Popster stand near the huge pile of potatoes so you could visualize just how big it is....that's showing about one third of the pile...I couldn't get back far enough to show the width of it!

Adam moving a pallet around.

This is the way they are bagged. All of these potatoes were orders for the fish & chip shops.........yes that is a huge business in England.

This is in the greenhouse where all the seed potatoes are stored ready for planting in the spring.

Just a couple of pieces of farm equipment

These are swans feasting on one of the fields........they are owned by the Queen so are totally protected. Notice the wind farms way off in the distance......there are a lot of them around.

Daniel & Evie.

This is Jenifer"s river....so she calls it (looks like a big ditch to me!). See the big stack of straw bales...they have been sold to a power plant than burns only straw to make electricity.

Greg showing Popster how this tractor works

James getting ready to ride his quad bike

At this point Evie was getting cold so her & I went into the house while Greg & Daniel took Popster on a tour of the rest of the farm.

Greg had someone convert a John Deere riding lawn mower into this "tractor" for Daniel. He is only 7 years old but is already a very serious farmer!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BIG BROTHER

Happy birthday to my big brother Terry...........have a wonderful day!

Designer "doggy uggs"

Poor Molly has been having a hard time already this winter with the snow. She has good size pads on her feet which are "webbed" like a lab's foot.  When she goes in the snow it builds up in between her pads & forms a hard piece of almost ice-like snow.  Then she holds her foot up for someone to pull it out.  I decided to make her her own boots. Jessica had spent the night here as we went to First night for new years....more on that later.....so we "googled" how to make dog boots & then modified it to work for Molly.  Keep in mind these were boots you could make in 10 minutes.  It took approx 10 mins to measure Molly's feet.  Two hours later here's the results I did decide to make her 2 for each foot figuring she would be like any typical kid & lose a couple here & there. We had to go to W*lmart in the middle of the project to get velcro to make the fasteners.  We then made her wear them around the house for a while &

Yea for Don the repair guy!

My new BFF is Don the repair guy who came today to fix the dishwasher. Amazingly, after he took the door apart it would close - I really did not believe the handle was broken but was defective! It had never felt right........always kinda loose. Anyway he decided that as long as we had a new handle he would install it & even gave me the old one as a back-up. Works much better now. Funny story - while he was here he got a phone call from the office telling him one of his earlier repairs of the day had called saying their dishwasher would not start at all. He called the lady back & suggested different things for her to try but nothing worked. He said he would stop back after his next call to see what it could be. As he hung up I said "Sounds to me like she has the "child lock control" on!". Sure enough after another phone call that turned out to be the problem! Maybe I need a change of careers!!!!!
