My view of China

The flight over was extremely long(16 hours!) but we did have a choice of 335 movies, 150 tv shows, games etc. - I watched 5 movies & probably 7 or 8 shows. We survived & were met in Hong Kong by Patrick & Matthew - our guides. We also met 7 other families & had a 45 minute bus ride to our hotel. After checking in we took a walk around & were fascinated by the fact everyone was eating at little "sidewalk" cafes at 10 pm!
Next day after breakfast we went on the usual tour - Victoria Peak, Aberdeen fishing village(my favorite as we took a 20 min Sampan tour of the harbor) & then Stanley market. Lunch was traditional Dim sum & I was taught how to use chopsticks - good thing as we seldom were able to get forks!
Later on in the evening we were trying to find a "safe" place for dinner & ended up at the italian restaurant in the hotel - what's wrong with that picture? Mark ordered a bottle of wine & even I had a glass..........we wanted to just sit & relax & sip our wine but the waitress was clearly getting upset because we hadn't ordered food. She finally sent the manager over to see what was wrong! Apparently they don't understand the concept of relaxing before dinner! Then we make faux pas # 2 & ordered pizza! It was a very classy restaurant.........why would it be on the menu????? By now I am feeling my wine & took a big gulp of my water!!!!!!! OOPS!
Next day we had a leisurely breakfast & walked down by the river. We sat down for about an hour "people watching"..........very interesting. Everyone in Hong Kong lives in an apartment so they get out to exercise & it was pretty educational seeing their conception of exercise! Also there are a lot of dogs but mostly the toy breeds. We saw what I would assume were dog walkers with "doggie stollers" - some double ones & even matching "doggie diaper bags"!!!
Finally we left for the airport at 11 am where I had a very interesting time getting through security with my carry on filled with weapons(knitting needles!)

    Oh my, you drank the water! I sure hope you didn't feel ill effects for days afterwards..

    How funny that your waitress brought over the manager to make sure everything was okay when you were relaxing with your glass of wine.

    Have to go read your previous post now, Val. Welcome back to the states!

Designer "doggy uggs"

Poor Molly has been having a hard time already this winter with the snow. She has good size pads on her feet which are "webbed" like a lab's foot.  When she goes in the snow it builds up in between her pads & forms a hard piece of almost ice-like snow.  Then she holds her foot up for someone to pull it out.  I decided to make her her own boots. Jessica had spent the night here as we went to First night for new years....more on that later.....so we "googled" how to make dog boots & then modified it to work for Molly.  Keep in mind these were boots you could make in 10 minutes.  It took approx 10 mins to measure Molly's feet.  Two hours later here's the results I did decide to make her 2 for each foot figuring she would be like any typical kid & lose a couple here & there. We had to go to W*lmart in the middle of the project to get velcro to make the fasteners.  We then made her wear them around the house for a while ...

Happy "13th" Birthday Liza

Today is Liza's 13th birthday(that is 91 in people years). We are just amazed that she not only is still with us, after being told 18 months ago she wouldn't live 6 months but that weather permitting she still walks 2 miles every morning & another 2 in the afternoon! Check out the slide show.......her friend Lucy came over tonight & they each had a donut w/frosting & sprinkles along with ice cream. It was just too funny as neither one of them can see worth a damn but they knew they were getting something good! Lucy had hers gone in 2 bites but Liza went for the ice cream first & then took her time licking off the frosting!

Sewing, weaving & emptying the waterbed

 Monday morning began bright & early as we needed to finish emptying our bedroom.  Mark was dropping LiLi off before 8:00am as she does not have school this week.  We needed to drain the waterbed before we could take it apart.  As usual we were having no luck getting the water to siphon out & even resorted to having LiLi (all 35lbs of her) sitting on it with us!!  It probably took over an hour & who knows how many tries before it worked.  Got the mattress out & discovered the decking was falling apart.....good thing we decided to do this project,,,,I was able to find a local place so we can just replace it & to be safe I also got a new safety liner & heater.  I don't want to be doing this again for a while!  While Popster worked on replacing the baseboard & window trim in those two rooms LiLi & I started working on this doll kit she had gotten for her birthday.  All the pieces needed to be sewn togeth...
